Pickeling

To lower costs associated with volume upon dispatch to our clients, Skinstra also offers Pickled skins (see pictures below) prepared also by our world class Portuguese partners. This processes are also closely followed up by Skinstra team at the partners premises.

Pickled skins have a significant reduction in volume. First, at the soaking step, the skins are soaked in clean water to remove the salt left over from curing and to increase the moisture so that the skin can be further treated.

After salted skins are rehydrated to initial humidity levels, the wool is removed and the animal skins are treated with acids in order to lower the skins pH. The ideal conservation pH of pickled skins is between 1.5 and 2.0. This pH will prevent microbial growth and consequent skin damage.

This innovative treatment and improved quality of our products led us to a prominent market position, having Portuguese and Spanish reference tanneries among our clients.
